Editing and translating a series of exhibition texts and accompanying
essays, as well as communications for the associated events programme
as part of the exhibition Swimming in the Anthropocene, in CHAPTER 2WO: Nicolás Jaar & the Shock Forest Group at Het HEM, the Netherlands.
Editing and translating texts for the launch of the new NM Studio website.
Translating an original spoken-word poem for a public performance. Dutch sound artist Gerjan Piksen required a poetic translation that emulated the linguistic rhythm and verbal timbre of the Dutch original. It was paramount to create a unique energy in an ‘original English’ version rather than force a literal translation.
Editing
and translating for Façade 2017, an arts festival in Middelburg, the
Netherlands. Communications based on literal translations were updated
to remove accidental ‘Dutchglish’ - a corruption of English wherein
Dutch spelling and grammatical rules cross into a translation.
Editing
website texts to ensure correct spelling, grammar, continuity, and
readability throughout. To aid accessibility, project descriptions were
refined to be concise and informative, with particular attention paid to replacing
date-specific adverbs (today, tomorrow, soon, recently) with more
specific time frames to minimise confusion and the need for more regular
updates.
Editing and translating project descriptions with proposed rewrites to create flowing English texts that remained sensitive to the subject matter, while retaining the playful and nuanced style of the Dutch originals.
