These A3, single-colour risograph prints were created using a photograph taken on 35 mm film of a group of hand-cast concrete polygons from the project ‘Imperfection Perfected’ (2013).
The prints are a testament to analogue processes, with each step adding its own characteristics to build up into this final, almost abstract image. Starting with the original concrete sculptures, the coarseness and rough-edges of which are highlighted further in the grain that typifies analogue film photography. This slight distortion is enhanced in the risograph process, which copies and enlarges the 6 x 4“ colour print into a stretched and flattened monochrome image. The result is a single, primary colour print which, while two dimensional, remains sculptural in its representation of textures, form and material.
‘Red Polygons’ is an edition of seven, and ‘Blue Polygons’ is an edition of twelve. Each is hand-signed, titled and dated in pencil at the base of the image. Although intended to be portrait, they can also be hung landscape, and come unframed. Owing to the printing techniques, each edition is unique, with slight imperfections resulting from its process of creation.
